It’s a stinking hot day in Sydney and most Sydneysiders are away on holidays or at the beach. But at the University of Sydney, 230 people have gathered for the annual Sydney Latin Summer School.
The school is open to those aged 13 and up, and provides an opportunity to learn and practice Latin and to study the literature of the ancient world.
Daniel Forrest is in Year 11 at James Ruse Agricultural High School in Sydney and it’s his second year at the summer school. “Latin is perhaps my favourite subject,” he says.
